Grenada is a constitutional monarchy and a parliamentary democracy. The head of state of Grenada is His Majesty King Charles III. In addition to Grenada, the King is the Head of State of 14 other Commonwealth realms, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The Governor-General represents the King in Grenada. The Governor-General is responsible for the appointment of the Prime Minister of Grenada. The Prime Minister is usually the leader of the political party that commands the majority of membership in Parliament. The Grenadian Parliament is bicameral, comprising a House of Representatives and a Senate. The House of Representatives has 15 members, directly elected by universal suffrage, each serving a five-year term. The Senate has 13 members appointed by the Governor-General, 10 in consultation with the Prime Minister, and 3 in consultation with the Leader of the Opposition.
